Next Round South Downs Raceway
October 5th
CU at the races!

12 brave racers threw themselves into the teeth of the tail end of Hurricane Bertha to do battle in Round 4 of the Falcon Pro Championships at North London Circuit in Finchley. With race control in the safe hands of Ian Fisher the building was battered by high winds, thunder and lightning and torrential downpours of rain.

1/32 Sports:

The monsoon weather did not appear to trouble the championship leader, Chris Thomas who took a narrow nail-biting victory from North London regular Greg Harwood by just 2/100ths/lap.

The “First Lady of Slot Racing”, Sandy Parker lead the large Oaklands Park contingent and took 5th place despite a “very late night on the tiles”, closely  followed up by Brian Bradley, Steve Rhodes and Mick Metcalf. Whilst Alice Howard continues to impress all with the standard of her racing her Father Ian had a torrid time at the back of the pack trying to find a decent car set up on his first visit to the track.

Formula 1:

Formula 1 saw yet another close battle for the lead, this time between Chris Thomas and Paul Harwood.  In fact “close” is too inadequate a word to use as 1st (Paul) and 2nd (Chris) were separated by less than half a car length as the power went off at the end of 12 minutes racing. Greg Harwood took 3rd place on the podium followed by John Ovens and a gaggle of Oaklands racers.

24 Sports:

Paul Harwood took another win on the day just a shade of a lap ahead of Chris Thomas with Sandy Parker not far behind in 3rd place. If Sandy is the “First Lady of Slot Racing” it’s got to be said that Alice Howard is the “Lady in Waiting of Slot Racing”  taking a stonking 7th place ahead of “seasoned veteran” Brian Bradley who struck trouble with a high speed off which bent the chassis. Alice is clearly going to be a name to watch for the future and - as mentor to Alice - Sandy Parker has created a monster racer there! Oaklander Steve Rhodes took a creditable 5th place while Terry Blackmore was making a return to 24 scale racing after a 40 year break.

Championship Standings:

If you look at the points table lead seems set but in fact it is delicately poised as championship leader Chris Thomas will miss Round 5 due to World Championship commitments in Latvia.  With the final round being worth double points the three championship categories are by no means settled at this point and we are set for a nail-biting battle to the finish at Raceway 81. The Championship continues at Round 5 at Richardsons South Downs on Sunday 5th October 2014. Be there or be absent!
